Cinema Guild acquires Manoel de Oliveira’s GEBO AND THE SHADOW for release on Blu-ray DVD and Digital.



New York, NY — Cinema Guild has acquired the final feature film from Manoel de Oliveira, GEBO AND THE SHADOW. It will release on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital platforms on October 15, 2019. Prebook is September 10. The disc will also include one of the director’s final short films “O Velho do Restelo” from 2014.

Synopsis

For his final feature film, Portuguese master Manoel de Oliveira offers a foreboding fable of familial unrest. Gebo lives a quiet life in a European port city with his wife, Doroteia, and his daughter-in-law, Sofia. But the family is haunted by the absence of João, Gebo’s son and Sofia’s husband. Rumors are circulating of robberies and even darker dealings in neighboring ports. Is João responsible? One night, he arrives home and all is brought to light.

Featuring a cast of luminaries led by Michael Lonsdale, Claudia Cardinale and Jeanne Moreau, GEBO AND THE SHADOW is an atmospheric gem and an unmissable cinematic milestone.
