FOREIGN TRAVEL
NEW YORK, NY (Sept 8, 2026) – Cinema Guild announced today the acquisition of North American distribution rights for Foreign Travel directed by translator and filmmaker Ted Fendt. Following its world premiere at this year's Berlinale, Fendt's latest will have its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival next month. Cinema Guild is planning a 16mm theatrical tour of the film in 2027.
Foreign Travel is a 63-minute narrative film shot over the course of one year in Berlin and Potsdam. After returning from a trip to Naples where she sought to forget her past, Leonie dives deep into the work of Italian writer Anna Maria Ortese. She and her friends meet to discuss Ortese’s books The Port of Toledo and Iguana, revealing the fine line between a passion for literature as a way of engaging with the world and a way of sublimating one’s demons. Meanwhile, Leonie's friend Florian moves from sublet to sublet, unable to resolve his conflicts with his father or set down roots in Berlin.
“At once hermetic and open, ascetic and sensuous, Fendt’s fourth feature is a beautiful evolution of the work he’s been making for over a decade," said Cinema Guild's Edward McCarry. "We're delighted to help bring this film—and by extension all of Fendt’s films—to a larger audience."
The deal was negotiated by Edward McCarry and Peter Kelly of Cinema Guild with Hans Broich of Superzoom Film.
Cinema Guild is a premier distributor of world cinema, independent films and documentaries, whose upcoming releases include Hong Sangsoo’s The Day She Returns and Nowhere to Lay My Eyes and Éric Baudelaire’s For the Moon. Recent releases include the restored films of Otar Iosseliani and the Portuguese filmmaking team António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro.
